Jason Quigley was delighted to extend his unbeaten record to 15-0 as he completed the first defence of his NABF belt in Fantasy Springs.
It was the toughest fight of Quigley’s career to date but the Donegal man managed to pull off an untidy unanimous victory over a tough Freddy Hernandez.
Quigley took comfortable verdicts of 98-92 (x2) and 99-91 on the scorecards in a ten-round slugfest.
After his victory, Chris McNulty, who was ringside in Fantasy Springs, caught up with Jason Quigley and got the Irish boxers instant reaction.
“It is one thing to win a belt, anybody can get in there and win a vacated belt, but to defend it now, I have really earned it,” he said.
“The first fight was a thriller, I broke my hand in that fight and I came through it and got the victory.
“Tonight, I absolutely outclassed Freddy Hernandez for the first four or five rounds and I got back into a bit of a tear up, I don’t know what the issue is there, is it the fighting Irish in me,” Quigley joked.
“I like to get in there for a tear up every now and then, but I have got to get out of that habit.”
