Irish Water has been asked to reverse their refusal to invest in a pipe replacement programme for South Inishowen after a weekend of major disruptions.
Homes and businesses around Buncrana, Inch Island and Burt faced water outages throughout Saturday, Sunday and into Monday this week.
Donegal Sinn Féin Senator Pádraig Mac Lochlainn has called on the regional management of Irish Water to meet with Donegal’s public representatives at the earliest opportunity about the on-going serious disruptions to the water supply across the South Inishowen area.
In a letter to the water company, Senator Mac Lochlainn said: “In recent days, yet again, a huge number of homes, businesses and public services were affected across a wide area of South Inishowen.
He has also stated that Irish Water “must review and indeed, reverse their refusal to invest in a pipe replacement programme on the South Inishowen supply network, particularly considering Irish Water’s plans to extend the Eddie Fullerton water supply beyond the Inishowen area and on to Letterkenny”.
