Former Mayo manager Stephen Rochford is being lined up to join Declan Bonner’s backroom team on the Donegal senior squad.
It is understood that Bonner is currently undertaking a major shake-up of his team in preparation for next season and is close to announcing Rochford as part of his set-up.
It comes following confirmation that former GAA Player of the Year and All-Ireland winner Karl Lacey has departed the senior backroom team.
It is also understood that Anthony McGrath and John McElholm have left the set-up.
Although there is no confirmation as yet of Rochford’s arrival, it is understood that Bonner is keen to add him to his team
Bonner has met with Rochford and, provided his employers give him the green light, he will be named as part of the Donegal backroom staff.
The AIB bank manager has a proven pedigree having taken Mayo to two All-Ireland finals in 2016 and 2017, only to be beaten twice by Dublin.
This season things didn’t go to plan as Mayo were dumped from the championship by Kildare in the third round.
