Minister Joe McHugh has announced that the Health Service Executive has signed a contract for the new Dunfanaghy Health Centre.
He said the development of a new HSE Primary Care health centre in Dunfanaghy is a major boost for the people in this region of Donegal.
“The centre will be a one-stop facility, providing vital care and services through the clinic and alongside GP and dental care.
“It will also have a dedicated ambulance depot on site.”
Minister McHugh said he was hopeful that Donegal County Council will prioritise the planning application which is being published this week.
Mr McHugh said: “The application has been completed by contractors Trevor and Darren Stewart and I understand it will be submitted to Donegal Co Co for approval next Monday.”
“Trevor and Darren should be congratulated for their work so far on delivering the project under a Public-Private Partnership scheme.
“I understand they hope to complete the work within 18 months of planning approval being granted.
“From my discussions with HSE management I know they are delighted with the vision for the new centre which will replace the old dispensary which served Dunfanaghy and the surrounding areas for many years.
“The new unit is also expected to offer a range of HSE clinic services including public health nursing, physio, OT, speech and language and other supports.
“It is hoped that the new centre will open in 2020.
“Ultimately it will replace the old dispensary and will be located at an old farm site at the entrance to the town with footpaths to the town centre already in place.”
