Employers and students are continuing to benefit from the Northwest’s largest Career & Postgraduate Studies Fair at Letterkenny Institute of Technology.
The annual LYIT Careers & Postgraduate Studies Fair takes place at the Letterkenny campus on Monday 22 October from 12-3pm.
This flagship event, now in its 15th year, is an integral part of the LYIT calendar.
The Careers & Postgraduate Studies Fair supports all LYIT students and graduates considering their career options.
This event also provides an excellent opportunity for career changers or those returning to the workplace to assess the current jobs market and for budding entrepreneurs to obtain valuable advice on their next steps.
Over 80 employers, universities and colleges, professional bodies and voluntary organisations will take part in this year’s event. Many of this year’s exhibitors are returning participants to the LYIT event.
Catherine Lyster, Careers Officer and event organiser commented, “This event is the largest careers event in the Northwest, the range and calibre of recruiters attending this year’s event is exceptional. We have recruiters and employers from a broad range of sectors including IT, Pharmaceutical, Finance, Social Care services, Design, Hospitality and Telecommunications providers.”
Catherine further added, “So many of the employers attending this event are returning participants of the event. The employers continue to return to this event because of past success in securing graduates with practical abilities and skills required by the recruiters.”
Careers being recruited for at the event include App Developers, Food Scientists, Project Specialists, Data Analysts, Quantity Surveyors, Marketing Specialists, administrators, design specialists and much more.
One such company recruiting for design specialists is Meta-Compliance of Derry.
Gemma Doherty graduated from Letterkenny IT in 2017 having completed degrees in Graphic Design, Visual Communications and a Higher Diploma in 3D modelling and Animation.
Gemma takes up her story “I found it very difficult to secure work in Design, so I took it upon myself to go back to college and study 3D modelling. I then secured work with Meta Compliance after they viewed my portfolio at my final year exhibition.
“Meta-Compliance is always pushing for innovation, something that makes us stand out against the competition, either through phishing simulation or with e-learning.
“Since starting with Meta-Compliance in July of 2017, I have gained skills in After Effects, Premiere Pro, Adobe Character Animator, and Cinema 4D. I’ve been supported to push myself out of my comfort zone with design, something that I was never able to achieve while studying.
“My advice to graduates, would be, to not put yourself in a box. Don’t be worried about your skills now, because they will grow and improve over time within a working environment. The team at Meta-Compliance are always here to help, there are no silly questions, and if you’re handy with riddles that’s a huge plus!”
In addition to graduate employment opportunities, attendees will have the opportunity to meet with a broad range of postgraduate course providers from Ireland and the UK, with offerings from broad range of disciplines including teaching, physiotherapy, human rights law to name but a few…
In addition to the main hall event, a number of seminars will take place during the day, including a talk about Teaching in the UK, careers in accountancy.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to avail of the ever popular CV Clinic where they can have their CV or personal statement reviewed by career experts free of charge. A giant jobs wall featuring a vast array of graduate vacancies can be viewed in the main exhibition area.
