The Letterkenny parkrun registration numbers doubled yesterday as crowds turned out to remember a former member of the committee.
The race was held in honour of former Race Director Art McGrath, who passed away in August.
162 people took part in the run at the Letterkenny Town Park, which organisers say is double the usual amount taking part at this time of year.
Philip Mc Hugh was first home in the 5K run, followed by Eddie Margey and Paul Toner.
A tea reception was held after the event, where donations were collected for Charities ” Croi” the Heart/Stroke Charity and “Good and New”. A total of €1423 was raised from donations which will be split equally between the causes.
Parkrun organisers have expressed their gratitude to all who took part in Saturday’s event.
A committee spokesperson said: “Thanks to everyone who came to parkrun this morning. It was a special Saturday parkrun for us as we remembered Art, who had been such a big part of our parkrun community. He is sorely missed.”
They continued: “As well as all our volunteers this morning, thanks also to Alice Gillespie and Mary Hegarty for coming along and helping us with the tea/coffees. And a big thanks to all contributed to the food either through baking, or bringing along foodstuff.
“We really appreciate your donations which will be split equally between two charities Croi and Good & New. In total we received €1423.00.
“Thanks to Mick Quinlivan, who generously gives us the use of the Vestry Building every week.”
