The Cloughaneely Angling Association have revealed they’ve published a Catchment Management Plan to try and invigorate the local economy in a sustainable and environmentally friendly manner.
The Angling Association is a community-based organization dedicated to the management and improvement of the fishery comprising the rivers Ray and Tullaghobegley.
In 2009, CAA entered into a formal agreement with the Northern Regional Fisheries Board. In the context of this agreement, CAA prepared a Strategic Plan 2017-2020 for management of the catchment.
Donegal Minister Joe McHugh will formally launch the plan, aimed for the period 2018 to 2021, at a meeting of stakeholders at the An tSean Bheairic, Falcarragh on October 11 at 6pm.
A spokesperson for the Cloughaneely Angling Association said: “The plan will be formally launched by Minister of State Joe McHugh. Attendees will be representative of the many individuals and organisations having an interest in and a responsibility for promoting the wellbeing of the environment in our catchment area.
“These will include, among others, Inland Fisheries Ireland, the Rivers Trust, Údarás na Gaeltachta, Donegal County Council, Irish Water, LAWCO, National Parks and Wildlife Service, BirdWatch Ireland, Marine Harvest Ireland, Irish Natura and Hill Farmers Association, the local Tourist and Traders Association and local landowners.
“Speakers will include Dr. Tony McNally, who was heavily involved in preparing the plan, and Mark Horton, All-Ireland Director of the Rivers Trust. Light refreshments will be served.”
