Anthony Gorman praised his Ulster Senior League side’s endeavour as they finished the FAI Intermediate Inter-League Tournament with a 2-2 draw against Leinster.
Following Friday’s 2-1 loss to Munster and Saturday’s 1-0 win over Connacht, it means the USL representation finish third, behind Leinster on goal difference.
Tony McNamee’s two goals gave the USL select a point in their final game of the busy weekend.
“The game was a case of the walking wounded,” Gorman said.
“We had a lot of boys carrying knocks and injuries. We couldn’t have asked for any more out of them. They gave everything they had.”
Craig Walsh and Carl Forsyth swung momentum Leinster’s way after McNamee’s early goal, but a penalty eight minutes from the end by McNamee secured a draw.
Gorman said: “When we attacked, we looked a real threat at times. The goals we conceded were down to fatigue I think; it was poor decision-making at vital times.
“There were a few wee mistakes creeping in at that stage and boys were flagging a wee bit.
“To the players’ credit, they took the game to Leinster in the second half and got their rewards with a penalty.
“I couldn’t have wished to work with a better group of players. They worked well for each other and they came together well. It was an enjoyable weekend.”
