Woodlands National School in Letterkenny has been successful in their application for participation in the Erasmus+ European Union Project.
Woodlands NS has been awarded €31,580 funding for the two-year project.
The aim of this project is to strengthen ties between European schools and to support activities in the fields of education, training, youth and sport.
The main objective of the project is “Exchange of Good Practices”. With this in mind, five staff members from Woodland NS will be travelling to Split, Croatia in early October to participate in the inaugural visit of the project.
The participating countries are Croatia, Italy, Greece, Poland and Ireland.
A school spokesperson said: “Each country will host the project members for a number of days over the next two years, with Woodland NS hosting 20 European visitors in September 2019, when the Letterkenny school will be delighted to exhibit all the cultural experiences Donegal has to offer.
“The pupils of Woodland NS are excited to have been chosen from all the applicants in Ireland and are looking forward to welcoming the visitors to the school in the future.
“Plans are already underway for next year’s events and activities which will display the sporting, cultural and musical talents and achievements that the children are so very proud of.”
During the project, the children, teachers and staff hope to expand their knowledge of our European peers’ heritage and appreciate the native culture and sport of the countries visited.
It is hoped that the relationships built between the children and staff of participating schools will continue to blossom even after the project has been completed.
These projects are partly managed by Léargas, a not-for-profit organisation wholly owned by the Department of Education and Skills. The European Commission is responsible for Erasmus+ policies and oversees the overall programme implementation.
