It was another busy weekend at Buncrana Golf Club as Rodger Doherty won the two-day long tournament, the Open Stableford.
Benedicts of Belfast Open Stableford
The competition last weekend was an Open Stableford which was sponsored by Benedicts Hotel of Belfast. With the prevailing wind and the drop in temperatures scoring was always going to be difficult and over the two days, only nine players managed to break 36 pts.
However, Sunday morning stalwart Rodger Doherty had a much welcome return to form by hitting the best score of the two days and his 40 pts secured him his first prize of the season. The full results of the Benedicts of Belfast Open Stableford are as follows; 1st Rodger Doherty (20) 40 pts, 2nd Ciaran Mc Laughlin (11) 39 pts, Gross Oliver Doherty (3) 70 gross, 3rd Jerome Farren (19) 37 pts b.o.t., Best Day Derek Smith (7) 35 pts b.o.t. and Back 9 Liam Lynch (14) 19 pts b.o.t.
Owen McDaid (Roe) Winter League
The much anticipated Owen McDaid (Roe) Winter League will commence this weekend Saturday 6th & Sunday, October 7, it will run for six weeks of qualifying for the match play stages and names are now being taken. There is a lot of talk about who takes the title this year with the usual stalwart’s pairs being in contention and a lot of young pretenders promising to shake up the Winter League competition.
However, talk is cheap and the only the way to prove the point is to get your names down and see if you’re up for the challenge. The format will be three weeks of two ball better ball and three weeks of two ball scramble with two scores to count from each format. With only 4 scores to count and Fridays being included for scoring it gives the pairings plenty of flexibility to ensure they get the opportunity to return their scores.
The entrance fee for the six weeks of qualifying and the match play is €30.00 per player and can be paid in full or by three instalments of €10.00 over the first 3 weeks of the competition. This will be the only competitive golf for the next few months so get your names down if you wish to keep your game in shape over the Autumn and Winter months.
Qualifying for Christmas Hamper
The qualifying for the Christmas Hamper has now commenced and the entrance fee is €4.00 with the re-entry €2.00. Qualifying for 0-6 players will take 20 pts and for the seven upward players, it will take 21 pts.
Find the Joker Fundraising
The “Find the Joker” is up and running again with a Jackpot of €800.00, lines only cost €2 each and this draw is open to members and non-members alike. Lines can be purchased in the clubhouse or through chief seller Oliver Doherty.
