The Finn Harps U19s hopes of making the knockout stages of the Elite National League have ended after having to settle for a 3-3 draw against Bohemians at IT Blanchardstown on Saturday.
It was heartbreak for Joe Boyle’s side as they had led 3-2 with Niall McGinley and Zach Gorman among the scorers while there was also a Bohs own goal that had Harps 3-2 up at a stage.
But then right at the death, the hosts equalised courtesy of a penalty.
That draw and the fact that Sligo Rovers defeated Derry City 3-2 saw the Bit o’Red edge Harps out for the fourth qualifying place.
Saturday’s result means that the Harps U19s season is now over. The Finn Harps U17s were on end of a 5-0 loss to Bohemians on Saturday in Ballybofey.
However, Declan Boyle’s boys had already booked their place in the national semi-finals.
Meanwhile, there was no joy for the Finn Harps U15s who lost 3-1 to Bohemians in the national play-off series on Saturday at the Curragh in Killygordon.
A win would have secured Kevin McHugh’s team a place in the semi-finals. Now the 15s must travel to Dublin next weekend looking for a result against Shamrock Rovers who are another highly-fancied side in this competition.
Bohs were 1-0 up at the break in Killygordon but Corey Brolly gave the hosts a lifeline. However, the visitors showed their quality by regaining the lead before adding a third goal for a very good away victory.
