Byrne’s Shop and Garage in Liscooly Townland near Ballybofey shut it’s doors earlier today, the owners confirmed.
The popular shop, which is located between Killygordon and Castlefinn, was a family business for 100 years and after an emotional day for the Byrne family, the shop shut to undergo refurbishment under new ownership with LCC Oil Ltd.
Plans for a new ‘Go Liscooly’ are already underway and is expected to re-open after a ‘short period of refurbishment’.
In a statement issued earlier day on it’s Facebook page, Byrne’s, Liscooly said: ‘Well, it’s the end of an era today, after over 100 years in business, we will close our doors at 6pm. It’s an emotional day but also a positive one, the future of business in Liscooly is secure and Go Liscooly will open its doors and pumps very soon after a short period of refurbishment.

‘A special word of thanks to my own family, Derek, Jack and Michael, my parents Pete and Olive Byrne and my brothers and sisters. This was always a family business and we will have many happy memories of our time here and the generations who went before us.
‘We will miss our customers, many of whom are good friends and we wish you all the best in the future. We would like to wish LCC Oil Ltd. every success with Go Liscooly.’
