Glenveagh National Park including its castle and visitor’s centre is one of Donegal’s favourite destinations.
As part of its educational and presentational remits, the National Parks
and Wildlife Service use interpretation videos at visitor sites.
From this visitor season onwards, re-mastered videos from 2007 using newly commissioned music are now being played at Glenveagh National Park.
The subjects at Glenveagh being reanimated are the reintroduction of the Golden Eagle, local history of the evictions at Glenveagh in the 19th century and the built heritage that is Glenveagh Castle.
The compositional work has involved the substituting of new audio sound accompaniments to replace what was generic “library” music.
The project has also been about co-operation with the Arts and promoting
the work of the composer, in this instance, the work of Mánus Lunny.
The aim too is towards heightening the emotional experience of the visitor so
as to trigger for a wide audience a sense of commonality of identity and
heritage.
The Glenveagh Suite is the latest outcome of the above reanimation project.
The project will be officially launched on Friday next by Minister of State Joe McHugh, Minister of State for Gaeilge, Gaeltacht and the Islands.
Members of the public are invited to attend the launch.
Visitors will be taken to the Castle from the nearby Visitors Centre so
arrival there by 11.30-11.45am is advised.
The event is free and light refreshments will be provided, but booking in
advance through glenveaghbookings@chg.gov.ie is essential as spaces are
limited.
