Darren McElwaine says ‘something has to change’ if Letterkenny Rovers are to avoid being the Ulster Senior League’s bridesmaids again this season.
Rovers took Cockhill Celtic to a play-off last season, but the Inishowen side won their sixth League crown following a 2-0 win.
“We’ve been in the mix, but something has to change,” veteran striker McElwaine said.
“We can’t continue to make excuses. Something has to change if we’re going to finish first.
“We have as good a players as are in the League. We have the players there. There is something missing there. Hopefully this is our year, but not after the start we had.”
Rovers lost 3-1 to a Cockhill side that was short a number of regulars in the League Cup.
McElwaine added: “We pushed them all the way in the last couple seasons. It’s going to be a tough ask. Hopefully with Fanad and Bonagee improving, there might be more teams to take points off them.
“We have a decent squad again. We’ll be strong enough. It’s more about our attitude and our mental approach.”
