A woman whose husband injured himself on a Donegal beach is searching for three good Samaritans who came to her rescue.
Wendy Anton, from Scotland, was walking with her husband Calum on Maghera Beach on August 28th last, when he stumbled and cut his head badly.
The couple had just arrived in Donegal the previous night on holiday and were unfamiliar with their surroundings.
However, a local family came to their rescue and helped the couple to get back on their feet and to get help.
Now Wendy and her husband would like to thank the family for their help.
A very grateful Wendy takes up the story.
“We arrived at Glencolumbkille on Monday 27 August to spend a few days with friends. On Tuesday we went to explore the caves at Maghera which are really impressive. My husband, Calum, went ahead to see if there were caves higher up the hillside.
“It was raining by then and he slipped and fell, cutting his head rather badly. Luckily a lady with her son and his wife who I think lived fairly locally and were there for a day out, saw it happen, had a look at it and thought it was pretty serious. I had no clue what to do but they took charge, asked the girl at the car park if she would check that the Health Centre in Ardara was open which it was.
“These lovely people then drove ahead of us to Ardara in pouring rain, and showed us where the Health Centre was. I simply can’t thank them enough, particularly as Calum insisted he was fine and wanted to return to Glencolumbkille. In the panic, I didn’t get their names.
“The outcome was that Ardara couldn’t do much and sent us to A & E in Letterkenny where he had 8 staples put in to close the cut, finally getting back to Glencolumbkille at 11.30pm! We then spent 5 days in the Wicklow hills area and he had the staples removed there.
“Everywhere we went we found people most friendly, kind and helpful, but particularly the trio on the beach at Maghera. If they get in touch please tell them their kindness will never be forgotten.”
If you are one of the family who came to Wendy and her husband’s aid, they have asked if you contact them through info@donegaldaily.com and we, in turn, will pass on your contact details.
