Kevin Cassidy won two championships in the early part of his career to end a draught in Gaoth Dobhair – but it has been 12 years and the thirst is on again.
Cassidy won titles in 2002 – when Gaoth Dobhair took Dr Maguire for the first time since 1961 – and 2006, but they’ve not been back since.
Cassidy knows the intervening years have seen Gaoth Dobhair stand as their own biggest opponents, but there’s a renewed focus about them this time.
The League title has already been sealed, but now Gaoth Dobhair are gunning for the big one again.
“It’s no secret that for six, seven, eight years we threw away a lot of chances,” Cassidy said.
“A lot of us we’re committed and didn’t pull together. We didn’t put in the right effort and didn’t train as hard as other teams.
“This year, we said we’ll pull it all together. Everyone can look each other in the eye and say we gave it our best shot.”
