Glenfin struck late as a Matthew McGinley’s goal gave Liam Breen’s team a vital win over Cloughaneely at Pairc Naomh Fionnan.
Cloughaneely 0-10 Glenfin 1-10
Cloughaneely will rue their missed opportunities at home as Glenfin hit back after being hit with a late sucker punch last weekend.
Then, a late Cian Gallagher goal saw Naomh Brid snatch a draw at Pairc Taobhoige, but here they hit 1-2 late on to take a dramatic win.
The home side should have been much further ahead at the half time whistle, being the dominant side throughout the first half; however they failed to convert their attacks with a number of shots on target falling wide.
Glenfin kept close tabs on the home side, in what was a low scoring first half and were within one-point of Cloughaneely come half time (0-5 to 0-4).
Glenfin came out re-energised in the second half scoring three unanswered points (two frees from ‘keeper Andrew Walsh and a point by Stephen Carr) putting them two ahead within the first ten minutes.
Cloughaneely’s Jason McGee managed to convert a free in response which was then quickly cancelled out by a Jason Morrow free.
Cloughaneely managed to draw level 48 minutes in with points from the Maguire brothers, Shaun and Martin.
However, Glenfin’s response of a goal and two points with 5 minutes remaining left it all to do for the home side.
The goal came after Jason Morrow dropped the ball into the goal mouth amid a sea of Glenfin and Cloughaneely jerseys.
Substitute McGinley managed to get a hand to it to direct it into the net.
During the same goal mouth flurry Cloughaneely’s Ciaran Scanlon and Glenfin’s Gerard Ward were shown red cards for an altercation. Further points from Martin Maguire and McGee weren’t enough for the hosts.
