Stephen McLaughlin was on the mark for Southend United today – but it wasn’t enough to prevent a home defeat against Peterborough United.
McLaughlin drew the Shrimpers level after Tom Hopper pulled a goal back for Southend, who trailed 2-0 following a Matt Godden brace.
McLaughlin pounced to steer home Ben Coker’s cross 15 minutes form the end, but Ivan Toney struck the winner for League One leaders Peterborough.
It is Posh’s best ever start to a season and it was disappointment for ex-Derry City and Finn Harps man McLaughlin, who forced to good saves from Aaron Chapman, the Peterborough ‘keeper.
Chapman beat away a stinging free kick from the Inishowen man, who also saw a header tipped over by the visiting net minder.
