Four Irish language presenters from Donegal have been nominated for the Oireachtas Media Awards, it was announced this week.
TV and Radio stars of TG4, BBC and RTÉ have been selected for the 20th annual awards which recognise and celebrate excellence, creativity and innovation in the Irish Language media sector.
Rising TG4 stars Micheál Ó Ciaraidh from Letterkenny and Caitlín Nic Aoidh from Falcarragh are both up for TV Personality of the Year 2018.
Also up for the title is Máire Bhreathnach from Gortahork, who hosts the studio panel show An Focal Scoir on BBC Two Northern Ireland. An Focal Scoir has also been nominated for TV Series of the Year.
Previous Oireachtas Media Award winner Rónán Mac Aodha Bhuí has been shortlisted again for Radio Personality of the Year. Mac Aodha Bhuí grew up in Gweedore and hosts Rónán Beo on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta.
There are 9 categories in the Irish Language Media Awards, 7 of which will be determined by a panel of judges. The ‘Social Media Campaign of the Year’ award was introduced for the first time this year.
“I congratulate all of the nominees on this year’s shortlist”, said Liam Ó Maolaodha, National Director of An tOireachtas. “We are happy to be celebrating the 20th year of the media awards this year. The industry has grown and flourished and we are delighted to have been part of the evolvement through the years. With the advancement of social media platforms, we felt it was important to give it due recognition”, he said.
The 20th annual media awards ceremony which will be held in INEC, Killarney, Co. Kerry, on October 31st, will see some of Ireland’s top journalists, presenters, programme makers and others within the Irish language media sector congregate to celebrate the success and achievements of the last year.
