Matthew McCole has bowed out of the 2018 World University Championships in Russia.
The Dungloe light-welter lost out to Russian Alisa Sharifov in a quarter-final in Elista, Russia yesterday afternoon.
McCole, a student at Letterkenny Institute of Technology, is part of a four-man Irish team, but made his exit after a unanimous-decision defeat.
McCole’s Irish team-mate Sean Purcell was beaten by Armenia’s Zhorzhik Marutyan 5-0, but on Saturday Terry McEntee from Monaghan defeat Narek Hohannisyan of Armenia 5-0 and he takes on Kyrgyzstan’s Min Uulu Siitbek in a quarter-final today.
