Adrian Delap scored his first senior goal to help send Derry City through to the quarter-finals of the FAI Cup.
Delap netted in the 80th minute for the only goal of the game against St Patrick’s Athletic on a dramatic night at a soaking Brandywell.
Delap, who replaced Ally Roy in the 54th minute, raced onto Aaron Splaine’s pass and, with Delap having been taken down, the ball got past the St Pat’s goalkeeper Brendan Clarke.
The Rye native – who was the Ulster Senior League Player of the Year last season – has been impressing Derry boss Kenny Shiels and has been given his chance.
The night ended in high drama with Pat’s given a penalty in the 95th minute.
Danny Seaborne fouled former Derry full-back Simon Madden, but Gerard Doherty superbly beat away Ian Turner’s penalty with the last kick of the game.
Ramelton’s Shane McNamee came on as a substitute for the Candystripes late in the game.
