Irish Water is aiming to change the schedule of planned works on Letterkenny’s High Road after major concerns were raised over the impact on traffic and businesses.
The majority of sewerage upgrade works on the High Road could now be taking place at night time only in order to ease disruption in the area in September.
Irish Water sparked shock and concern with their original plan to fully close a part of the High Road for three weeks from Monday 3rd September. A significant number of businesses are located on the affected part of the road from New Line Road to McGettigan’s Hotel.
Following further contact with the Letterkenny Chamber of Commerce, Irish Water has agreed to examine options to complete the works at night.
However, the company says there may still be a need for some works on this section of road to be completed during daylight hours.
The works will be carried out by contractors Cleantech Group on behalf of Irish Water. It is estimated that the total schedule of works in the Letterkenny Sewerage Scheme will take 18 months to complete.
Concurrently with High Road, another crew of workers will be operating at Ballyraine Industrial Estate, on to Ramelton Road and across at the petrol station to link up with Middle Road. Letterkenny Chamber has confirmed that this project will also be done at night to minimise disruption.
