Donegal Boston advanced to the Senior Championship final after a hard-fought win over Aidan McAnespies yesterday.
Donegal Boston 0-13 Aidan McAnespies 0-9
Donegal Boston, managed by Buncrana man Padraic McLaughlin, had four points to spare and were indebted to goalkeeper Hugh ‘Yank’ Boyle, from Naomh Muire, for some fine saves to repel the Aidan McAnespies charge.
Dublin ace Diarmuid Connolly and Gaoth Dobhair native Michael Carroll (pictured) had Donegal off and running before Warner Mullen got McAnespies off the mark.
St Michael’s man Lee Carr, Connolly, Shane Carthy and Brendan Murphy hit points and Donegal led by a point, 0-6 to 0-5, at half-time.
Carr, Connolly and Sean Donnelly added points for Donegal, but McAnespies hit back as Mullen, from Strabane, and Urney’s Johnny Lafferty – a former Finn Harps player – kept them in check.
Late points by Carr and Connolly sent Donegal through to next weekend’s final, where they will meet Wolfe Tones.
Jason Noctor from Killybegs is the Donegal Boston captain, while Kilcar’s Eoin McHugh and Sean Doherty (Urris) are also part of the panel.
Manager McLaughlin is assisted by Downings’ Declan Scott and Malin native Paul Martin McDaid.
