There was a mix of excitement, tears, disbelief and celebrations in schools all over Donegal this morning as students received their Leaving Certificate results.
Some 2,112 students in the county sat the Leaving Cert and LCA exams in June 2018. It was a long wait until the big day today when they would reap the benefits of all their hard work and discover how well they did.
Local schools opened their doors bright and early this morning to hand out results papers and help students and parents tally up their points.

Crana College, Buncrana:

Up to 100 Leaving Cert and LCA students collected their results in Crana College this morning, where there was an exciting and positive atmosphere in the school.
Principal Kevin Cooley said: “Our students achieved a really high standard of results this year with Darragh Harkin, our Head Boy, getting 4 H1 Grades and a fantastic points score of 576.
“Our overall results are excellent by any school’s standards and I’m delighted for our students and for their parents that all of the hard work and focus on the Leaving Cert has paid off for them.
Mr Cooley added: “Now more than ever, students are very tuned into what points they need to be offered a place on their course of choice and this year was no different. Monday is another important day when CAO will release their offers for courses but students should not be overwhelmed should they not be offered their first choice course. There are many options and routes nowadays to get on their desired career path and these will become known to them in the coming few days and weeks.
“Crana College has a great team of teachers and staff with a tremendous exam focus and many of them were in the school this morning to celebrate and support their students. Staff are always really anxious to see how their students have done and I’m very relieved for them that students did so well.
“I want to congratulate and wish all of our students the very best in the next leg of their education adventure,” Mr Cooley said.
Mr Philip McGuinness added: “We are extremely happy as a school, we were above the national average when it came to maths results we are very proud of that as well.
“There was great excitement around the school principal and it was lovely that the parents came in and celebrated with the students.”
Coláiste Chineál Eoghain, Buncrana
Acting Principal Stephen Doherty has offered his sincerest congratulations to the Leaving Cert students of 2018.
Mr Doherty said: “Coláiste Chineál Eoghain was honoured with the presence of these students and we thank those students along with their parents and community. Another first for CCE was the first leaving cert examination of Chemistry. All students performed well here.
“All students are confident of following their chosen courses in the myriad of choices available.
“I would again like to congratulate our students and I wish them a safe, positive, and healthy future in all aspects of their lives.”

St Columba’s College Stranorlar
Donegal students Eimear McCauley and Kate McGlinchey were clearly over the moon with their results!

Eimear said: “The atmosphere in our school was tense this morning before we got the results but everyone seemed really happy. I was really happy with mine.”
Eimear plans to study Health Science at North West Regional College in Derry, with hopes to go on to do psychiatry.
Deele College, Raphoe
Pupils at Deele College had a day in the spotlight as RTÉ News cameras filmed their results morning. Mr Danny McFadden, Deputy Principal said: “We are delighted with the many who received outstanding results and we thank parents, teachers and students for their hard work throughout their time here in Deele College.”
