Donegal ETB, which manages 15 out of the 27 post-primary schools across the county, today congratulated students and learners who sat their Leaving Certificate examinations in June on their results.
Speaking earlier today Donegal ETB Chief Executive Anne McHugh, said, ‘On behalf of Donegal ETB, I would like to offer my sincere congratulations to the almost 800 Leaving Certificate students in our fifteen post-primary schools and the seventeen adult Leaving Certificate learners from our Letterkenny Further Education and Training Centre who sat their exams in June and today receive the results of their hard work.
“It takes a tremendous effort from all the students and learners including their parents, families and teachers who have supported them and helped them through the whole experience. I wish the best of luck to everyone applying to further their studies or going directly into employment.’
Ms McHugh reminded students and learners that in terms of progression, ‘As the largest Further Education and Training (FET) provider in the county, Donegal ETB offers a wide range of courses to meet progression needs. There are also many opportunities to earn and learn through our FET Service – students do not have to go away to other parts of the country to achieve their dreams. These include apprenticeships, Post-Leaving Certificate (PLC) courses, Traineeships and a wide range of other full-time training courses available through our FET Service.’
She also pointed out that for those students and learners who feel that they did not achieve the results they wanted, there are a number of options.
“First talk to the Guidance Counsellor in your school or centre – they will be able to outline your options which may include repeating some exams. Donegal ETB also provides learning opportunities through our Youthreach programme in our six centres across the county for young people aged 16-20 years for whom the Leaving Cert has not worked out. There are many different ways to achieve your goals and being creative in mapping your path is an excellent learning experience in itself,” she added.

Inniu rinne ETB Dhún na nGall, a bhainistíonn 15 scoil den 27 scoil iar-bhunoideachais i gCo Dhún na nGall, comhghairdeas le mic léinn agus foghlaimeoirí ar a gcuid torthaí sna scrúduithe Ardteistiméireachta i mí Mheithimh.
Ag labhairt di níos luaithe inniu, dúirt Anne McHugh, Príomhfheidhmeannach ETB Dhún na nGall, an méid seo leanas: ‘Thar ceann ETB Dhún na nGall, ba mhaith liom comhghairdeas ó chroí a thabhairt do bheagnach 800 mac léinn Ardteistiméireachta inár 15 scoil iar-bhunoideachais agus an seacht déag foghlaimeoir aosta Ardteistiméireachta ónár nIonad Breisoideachais agus Oiliúna i Leitir Ceanainn a rinne a gcuid scrúduithe i mí Mheitimh agus a fuair a gcuid torthaí inniu as an obair chrua a chur siad isteach. Glacann sé iarracht mhillteannach ó na mic léinn agus na foghlaimeoirí go léir, maraon lena dtuismitheoirí, a dteaghlaigh agus a gcuid múinteoirí a thug tacaíocht dóibh agus a chuidigh leo tríd iomlán an chleachta. Guím gach uile rath ar gach duine a bheas ag déanamh tuilleadh staidéir nó ag dul díreach isteach i bhfostaíocht.’
I dtaca le dul chun cinn, chuir Iníon McHugh é seo i gcuimhne do mhic léinn agus d’fhoghlaimeoirí: ‘Siocair gurb é an soláthraí Breisoideachais agus Oiliúna (FET) is mó sa chontae, ofrálann ETB Dhún na nGall réimse leitheadach cúrsaí chun freastal ar riachtanais dul chun cinn. Lena chois sin, tá neart deiseanna ann le saothrú agus foghlaim a bhuíochas dár Seirbhís FET – ní gá do mhic léinn imeacht go dtí áiteanna eile sa tír lena gcuid mianta a bhaint amach. Dúirt sí fosta ‘Do mhic léinn agus foghlaimeoirí a mheasann nach bhfuair siad na torthaí a bhí de dhíth orthu, tá roinnt roghanna eile ann. I dtús báire, labhair leis an Treoirchomhairleoir i do scoil nó d’ionad – beidh siadsan ábalta breacrianú a thabhairt ar na roghanna atá agat, agus d’fhéadfá cuid de na scrúduithe a athdhéanamh. Fosta, cuireann ETB Dhún na nGall ar fáil deiseanna foghlama do dhaoine óga, in aois 16-20 bliain, nár obair an Ardteistiméireacht dóibh, tríd ár gclár Ógtheagmháil inár sé ionad ar fud an chontae.
