Brendan Boyce preparations for Berlin have been hampered by injury, but the Milford man is still hopeful of improving on his European Championship result from four years ago.
In Zurich, Boyce placed 16th in the 50k race walk when he finished in 3 hours 51 minutes and 34 seconds.
Finn Valley AC man Boyce is in action in Berlin tomorrow morning at 7.35 – and despite being troubled by injury, still believes he can upgrade his placing.
The 31-year-old came ninth at the World Race Walking Team Championships in China (3:53:32) in May, but an injury to his Tibia curtailed his preparation for Berlin.
There was even a time when it seemed as if Boyce mightn’t have been able to go under starter’s orders in Germany – but on he’ll go.
Boyce’s PB for the 50k race walk is 3:48:55, set in March 2015 in Dudince, Slovakia.
Mark English has also been hit by injury lately, but the Letterkenny native and UCD AC runner goes in the 800m heats on Thursday morning.
English was the bronze medal winner in these Championships in Zurich, but faces a big challenge to return to those heights.
