The Summer Cup era in Donegal is recalled as a golden age for soccer in the county – but last night a goal score in Rathmullan could be part of the fireside talks for some time.
Niall Carruthers netted a hat-trick for hosts Rathmullan Celtic in a 5-2 win over derby foes Whitestrand United.
The game, in the Joseph Sheridan Memorial Cup, was fiercely contested. JP Doran and Jay Dee Alawiye scored the other goals for Rathmullan.
But the highlight at Flagpole Park undoubtedly was this stunning piece of magic by Carruthers, whose nifty close control enabled him to find the net.
