BJ Banda is on his way out of Finn Harps after the attacker played for Irish League Championship outfit Dergview today.
Banda, the hero of the hour from Harps’ famous promotion play-off win in 2015, has found game time at Harps drop from limited to non-existent and looks set to make a switch to Darragh Park.
Dergview lost 8-0 to Coleraine at The Showgrounds in a friendly this afternoon and included Banda in their ranks. Banda started for Dergview and played the first half of the game.
Former Harps winger Simon McGlynn plays for Dergview while midfielder Gareth Doherty is on loan at the Castlederg side from Harps.
Banda shot to instant fame in 2015. Having only made his debut that September, Banda – who scored twice in a League win over Wexford Youths at Finn Park – scored the last-gasp goal to win the play-off against Limerick and shoot Harps back to the Premier Division.
The game was destined for penalties when Banda headed home a goal at the Town End of a packed Finn Park that will live long in the memory. Banda added to his cult status at Finn Park last year when he scored one of the goals as Harps scored a first ever away League win over Derry City, netting in a 2-0 win at Maginn Park.
Since then, however, Banda has cut a peripheral figure at Harps and has sought more first team football.
