The Public Appointments Service (PAS) has now announced a competition for Irish language speaking Clerical Officers in the Civil Service for 2018.
This competition is open to fluent Irish speakers and to people who are capable of doing their work through the Irish language. The competition is open until 3pm Thursday, 16 August 2018.
Joe McHugh, T.D., Minister of State for the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Islands welcomes this competition and has urged applicants from all over the country to apply for the competition, particularly those who would be interested in working through Irish.
Minister of State McHugh said it is evident that there is demand for the provision of Irish language State services to the same standard as the services provided in English.
He added “Therefore, this competition aligns with the overall objectives of the Official Languages (Amendment) Bill 2018, which is currently being drafted, that 20% of the new recruits to the Public Service will be Irish speakers, that every public office based in the Gaeltacht will operate in Irish and that the public organisations will be able to meet the demand for services in Irish from the public.”
“My Department is working with the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform and with the Public Appointments Service to promote this competition that is aimed exclusively at Irish language speakers. We hope that other competitions, at various grades, will be organised for Irish language speakers in future.
“This competition follows the EPSO competition for Irish language translators in the institutions of the European Union in Brussels and Luxembourg which was launched by me last week, and it is another example of the number of employment opportunities that are available to the Irish language community.
“More than 30 language planning officers will be recruited in the coming years also as part of the language planning process which is currently underway. This surge in Irish language employment will boost the status of the language, especially among younger people, as they become aware of the opportunities that are and will be available to them to use their language in their workplace.”
Tá comórtas d’Oifigigh Cléireachais le Gaeilge sa Státseirbhís fógartha ag an tSeirbhís um Cheapacháin Phoiblí (SCP) anois do 2018.
Is comórtas é seo atá oscailte do dhaoine le Gaeilge líofa agus dóibh siúd a bheadh in ann a gcuid oibre a dhéanamh trí Ghaeilge. Tá an comórtas seo oscailte go dtí 3pm Déardaoin 16 Lúnasa 2018.
Cuireann Joe McHugh T.D., an tAire Stáit don Ghaeilge, don Ghaeltacht agus do na hOileáin fáilte roimh an gcomórtas seo agus tá molta aige d’iarratasóirí ó cheann ceann na tíre cur isteach ar an gcomórtas go mór mhór iad siúd a bheadh suim acu oibriú trí mheán na Gaeilge.
Dúirt an tAire Stáit McHugh:
“Tá sé soiléir go bhfuil éileamh ar sheirbhísí Stáit i nGaeilge a bheith ar fáil ar chomhchéim leis na seirbhísí a chuirtear ar fáil i mBéarla. Mar sin, tagann sé seo le hollspriocanna Bhille na dTeangacha Oifigiúla (Leasú) atá á dhréachtú faoi láthair, sé sin go mbeidh 20% de na daoine nua a earcaítear don tseirbhís phoiblí ina gcainteoirí Gaeilge, go mbeidh gach oifig phoiblí atá lonnaithe sa Ghaeltacht ag feidhmiú trí Ghaeilge agus go mbeidh na heagraíochtaí poiblí in ann freastal ar an éileamh ón bpobal ar sheirbhísí trí Ghaeilge.”
“Tá mo Roinn ag obair leis an Roinn Caiteachais Phoiblí agus Athchóirithe agus leis an tSeirbhís um Cheapacháin Phoiblí, chun an comórtas seo, atá dírithe go heisiach ar chainteoirí Gaeilge, a bhrú chun cinn. Tá súil againn go mbeidh comórtais eile, ag gráid éagsúla, á reáchtáil do chainteoirí Gaeilge amach anseo.”
“Tagann an comórtas seo sna sála ar an gcomórtas EPSO d’aistritheoirí Gaeilge in Institiúidí an Aontais Eorpaigh sa Bhruiséil agus i Lucsamburg a sheol mé an tseachtain seo caite, agus is léiriú eile é ar an líon deiseanna fostaíochta atá ann do phobal na Gaeilge. Leis an bpróiseas pleanála teanga faoi lán seoil, beidh os cionn 30 oifigeach pleanála teanga le hearcú sna blianta amach romhainn chomh maith. Cuirfidh an borradh seo i gcúrsaí fostaíochta trí Ghaeilge le stádas na teanga, go háirithe i measc an aosa óig, nuair a fheiceann siad go bhfuil agus go mbeidh deiseanna dóibh a dteanga a úsáid ina saol oibre.”
