Eamonn Doherty says Donegal treated Saturday evening’s game in Roscommon like an ‘old-style quarter-final’.
Donegal knew they had to win or their hopes of advancing were over – and they did just that as a 0-20 to 0-13 win keeps them hoping to make an All-Ireland semi-final ahead of a showdown with Tyrone in a fortnight’s time.
“That was a tough game,” said Doherty, who was detailed to mark Enda Smith and kept him to a point.
“They had a great start and had a great support, but we’re glad to get the two points. We treated it like an old-style quarter-final, a knock-out game. There was no panic. We just stuck to the game plan.”
Roscommon were out like an express train, but Donegal hit seven-in-a-row in the first half to take a grip on proceedings.
Doherty said: “We weren’t under pressure. We knew they’d be out swinging and we knew that we’d eventually get to impose our game plan.
“Our boys have been around long enough and we kept it ticking over. We were in a very good place at half-time. We could have pushed on a bit more.”
