Fine Gael Councillor Mickey Doherty has been welcomed back to the fold on his return to the Donegal County Council chambers in Lifford today.
The Quigley’s Point councillor was co-opted on to the council to replace John Ryan, who stepped down in May.
Cllr Doherty has previously served as a councillor from 2009-2014, representing the Inishowen electoral area.
On his first meeting back today, Cllr Doherty told the members that he was delighted to be back working with all parties.
“I am absolutely overwhelmed to be back here. I missed all of you. It’s great seeing old faces and new faces I’m delighted to get to know,” Cllr Doherty said.
Cllr Doherty commended the council on the success of the recent Dubai Duty Free Irish Open, saying: “The outstanding delivery of the Irish Open has just proven big time of what working together means.”
He added: “Teamwork is what creates success and that is very evident in Donegal County Council.”
Cllr Doherty was welcomed back by Cathaoirleach Seamus Ó Domhnaill and cross party representatives.
Cllr Ó Domhnaill said: “We have less than a year left in this council chamber. It’s good timing for Mickey. This will give him an opportunity to represent the people he loves so dearly in Inishowen.”
