Killybegs welcomed the Cunard Line Queen Elizabeth cruise ship to its new pier on Friday 20th July, breaking records for the largest ever liner to berth in the booming port.
Old world charm meets modern luxuries aboard the Queen Elizabeth. As 2,000 guests disembarked for a day of exploring in Donegal, 20 guests got the chance to step inside the grand vessel for a tour organised by Atlantic Travel Letterkenny.
The interiors of this colossal shop scream Gatsby-era decadence. The spotlessly clean rooms and corridors feature Art Deco designs, gleaming rich wood panelling, sparkling chandeliers and splendid seating areas throughout.
A staff force of 1,200 keeps the operation sailing smoothly. This floating resort hosts nine restaurant areas, 12 bars, an 800-seater theatre, wellness suite, spa, beauty salon, outdoor games deck, two swimming pools, casino, library, art gallery and shopping mall. Add in the upkeep of 1,000 cabins and you can see why such a large crew is needed.
There is no shortage of activities to keep guests entertained in the morning, evenings and on days at sea. If they are not dining or relaxing with a drink, guests can enjoy live music on many floors, ballroom dancing in the Queens Room or shows in the Royal Court Theatre, where magicians, comedians, guest performers and in-house production casts perform nightly.
Going on a cruise ship such as this is lavish living at its best. The classic surroundings are timeless and universally glamorous, which makes each destination so exciting as new places lie waiting to be explored.
