The entertainment line-up has just been announced for the World Meeting of Families celebrations in Croke Park – with two local stars listed as lead acts.
Daniel O’Donnel and Moya Brennan from Clannad will be performing for Pope Francis and thousands of attendees at the Festival of Families on Saturday 25 August.
Nathan Carter, The Riverdance Troupe, The Priests, The Holy Family Deaf Choir and Deaftones and more well-known local and international artists are also taking to the stage for the two-hour stadium show.
The Festival of Families will be one of the highlights of the WMOF2018. As well as music artists, the cast for the event will include an orchestra in excess of 50 musicians; over 700 Irish, Sean Nós and contemporary dancers, including 500 from Irish dance schools across the country; a 1,000 strong choir; 100 community groups, and 300 flag bearers.
Pope Francis will deliver an address to families from 116 countries in the stadium and will hear five family testimonies. The testimonies will be shared by families from Ireland, Canada, India, Iraq and Africa.
Pope Francis has decided not to sit on the stage, but among the audience for this event. Organisers have said the Pope will join guests on the pitch, sitting on a platform, so that people can see him while ‘sits among the people’.
