Finn Valley AC high jumper Sommer Lecky aims to make an impression in Sunday’s World U20 final after a perfect day in qualification.
The 17-year-old didn’t miss a beat to cruise into the final.
It almost seemed effortless as Lecky sailed over the 1.84m to make automatic qualification for the final at the Ratina Stadium in Tampere, Finland.
“It was tough out there today because it’s really warm,” Lecky said.
“Job done and final here I come!
“I was nervous, but they were good nerves. I could control them. I felt relaxed once I came out on the track.
“If I was to jump on today, I would have been up there. I felt really good. Hopefully I can recover well and come back for the final.”
Lecky, who finished tenth in the Commonwealth Games in Australia earlier this year, has a personal best of 1.86m in the event.
The Castlederg woman is coached by Niall Wilkinson and has created history in becoming the first Finn Valley athlete to make a world final.
She said: “We’ll see what happens in the final. Anything can happen once you’re there.”
