The Old Courthouse on Letterkenny Main Street has yet to change hands, despite plans for a council takeover two months ago.
Much speculation has gone into the future use of the building, which sits in a prime town centre location with plentiful parking facilities.
The Letterkenny Municipal District Council was due to take over the property from the Courts Services for its own use before the beginning of summer.
However, the council has confirmed this week that arrangements have yet to be made.
In a response to a query from Cllr Jimmy Kavanagh, the executive said: “There are ongoing discussions with representatives of the Courts Service in relation to the arrangements for the handover of the former Courthouse building. Work is continuing in the building to relocate files/records etc. to the New Court Service building.”
Since the Old Courthouse closed in January 2018, a number of community groups have expressed interest in gaining use of the building after the Courts Service moves out.
The council confirmed in May that the property would be retained for council business.
