A man has been arrested in connection with the theft of a senior Garda’s phone from Letterkenny District Court last week.
The man, who was in his 50s and from Lybia, appeared in court on traffic offenses.
The case was struck out after the court was satisfied that the man had previously sold the car on to another man before the alleged offenses happened.
The man thanked the court and remarked to Judge Paul Kelly that he loved Donegal and said it has “very nice people.”
The man, who lives in Dublin, told the court that he was being driven home by his daughter who was also in court.
However, a short time after the man left court, a senior Garda noticed his phone was missing.
CCTV footage of the courtroom was later viewed and Gardai visited the man at his home in Balinteer in south Dublin.
The Garda’s phone was found in the man’s car and he was later arrested.
However, the man is understood to have complained of chest pains and was admitted to hospital.
A Garda source said the man will be interviewed in relation to the alleged theft at a later stage.
