A 70-year-old pensioner who attacked a shop-keeper in Raphoe has been fined when he appeared in court.
Patrick Harkin was arrested at The Diamond in Raphoe at 4.30pm on June 2nd, 2016.
Letterkenny District Court heard Harkin, of 38 Greenfields, Convoy had been intoxicated when he entered Coyle’s Shop.
He struck the shop-keeper on the back and neck and then knocked off his glasses.
The court was told that the injured man did not need medical treatment.
Solicitor for the accused, Mr Patsy Gallagher, said his client was a frail and weak man who had spent several months in hospital as a result of alcoholism.
He said he was not welcome in the shop after a number of previous incidents.
The court heard that Harkin had 54 previous convictions, many for public order offenses.
Harkin had telephoned Garda Sgt Jim Collins and the injured party the following day to apologise for his behaviour.
Judge Paul Kelly fined Harkin €150 for the assault charge.
