Donegal has basked in sunshine for weeks now, but one particular day at Malin Head has smashed records for this year’s sunshine levels.
Ireland’s highest daily sunshine for June was 16.5 hours at Malin Head on the 28th June.
It may be bright and sunny in the north west, but Malin Head has recorded some of the coolest temperatures during Ireland’s heatwave. Just once in the last 10 days did the temperature rise over 25.2C at the station.
Met Eireann’s Warm Weather Report has confirmed that Dublin had the driest June in 80 years, as rainfall for Phoenix Park was measured at just 3.8mm.
Temperatures across the country reached the highest in 40 years after 32.0°C was recorded at Shannon Airport on June 28th. The last time a June temperature in Ireland was above 31.5 °C was 29-Jun-1976 at Shannon Airport, Co Clare (when it was 31.6 °C) and on the same day at Boora, Co Offaly (when it was 32.5 °C).
Met Eireann’s latest forecast says the ‘exceptional spell of settled weather’ is here to stay. The outlook remains dry, hot and sunny well into next week. There is a small chance of rain in the south of Ireland this Wednesday afternoon, but it is not expected to reach the northern counties.
