Donegal Youth Service has six new full-time volunteers over the next 2 years thanks to their successful application to Leargas for an Erasmus+ Volunteering Project.
The new volunteers are from Spain and Romania, and they will be working with the Donegal Youth Council, LOFT and the Letterkenny Youth Information Centre (YIC) bringing unique skills and insights from their home countries. The project has been funded from June 2018 until May 2020.
This project is also of great benefit to the young people of Donegal. Volunteers are sought on the basis of certain skills and their educational backgrounds such as media work, video editing, photography, graphic design and drama. Skills which support the work of Donegal Youth Service, and that can be shared with young people over various groups and projects.
It is also a great opportunity for local young people to learn bits of a new language, meet people from other countries, and learn about a different culture which broadens their horizons.
Gareth Gibson, Letterkenny Youth Information Centre Coordinator said: “We are delighted to have received funding for the next two years for our Volunteering project. Since 2007 DYS has been hosting volunteers from all over Europe, and we look forward to seeing what the new volunteers will bring to our organisation and the young people of the county over the next few years.”
Donegal Youth Service is also an approved Volunteering sending organisation. Young people aged 18-30 can take part in all expenses paid projects which last from 2 weeks to 12 months in different organisations across Europe. It looks great on your CV, and for many it really is the experience of a lifetime.
The Letterkenny Youth Information Centre offers a service for young people and those who work with them. They offer support and information about job-seeking, accommodation, training, grants, opportunities, cyberbullying and internet safety workshops and lots more.
