Gareth Harkin says patience was key as he got back to fitness after a ‘long, lonely road’ since picking up a knee injury in pre-season.
Harkin had a reoccurrence when he played against Mayo League in the EA Sports Cup, but last week he played 90 minutes of Harps’ 2-1 win over Galway United at Eamonn Deacy Park – and now aims to help keep Harps in the promotion hunt.
“I’ve had 12 weeks out and it was a long, lonely road, but I was glad to get back against Longford for 20 minutes and 90 minute against Galway,” Harkin said.
“Patience was key. I wanted to get back strong. I still have to get the fitness up, but I’m confident with the knee.”
Harps welcome League leaders UCD to Ballybofey on Friday evening looking to cut the deficit to four points.
Harkin said: “I think it’ll go down to the wire. Everybody is beating everybody and no-one is taking a hold, bar UCD maybe. It’s up to us to stop them. We have to aim for the top four.”
