Donegal County Council is to liaise with residents in a Letterkenny estate in a bid to turn its play area ‘into a useable amenity for the children of the area’.
The play area at Manor View, in the Long Lane area of Letterkenny, has become overgrown and unsuitable.
“A lot of estates have proper play areas,” Councillor Jimmy Kavanagh told this month’s meeting of the Letterkenny Municipal District.
“There is a play area laid out, but it isn’t in use and is getting overgrown. There are a lot of children there. If we could take a look at it and see what we could do. A similar job was down in Elmwood Downs.”
Councillor Kavanagh said the play area needed ‘cleaned up and made usable’.
In response, the Council said: “The council will make contact with residents in the estate to discuss the proposal and the associated project costs.”
Donegal County Council Director of Services Liam Ward said he would confirm the status of Manor View from a takeover point of view.
This came after a motion from Councillor Kavanagh to cut trees in the estate back.
“They are hanging across the road and reduce visibility for drivers in a part of the estate that has a lot of children.”
