A Garth Brooks superfan has gained a commitment from the country star that he will play in Ireland when organisers give the go-ahead.
Donegal resident Karen Green and her husband Barry travelled to the Country Music Association Festival in Nashville this week to see Garth perform. During a live Q&A session, Karen asked Garth something that thousands of home fans want to know – will he be coming back to Ireland?
As a lifelong fan, Karen, who is originally from Tyrone, camped out for tickets to two of Garth’s Croke Park gigs in 2014. However, when Dublin City Council refused to permit five consecutive dates, the show run was cancelled.
The ‘Friends in Low Places’ hitmaker told Karen that the Irish show cancellations was probably the saddest moment of his musical career. He added that the coolest moment of his career was selling 400,000 tickets in one city.
Garth said it broke his heart to have to refund the fans’ tickets. He said: “Not to be allowed to play all five, I had to pick two of the five to cancel and I said ‘screw that, I’m not going to do that to these people.”
Garth confirmed that he is ready to play in Ireland when the authorities allow it.
“I believe that things that start should finish so I have 100% made the opportunity available to the people that make the decision in Ireland to get those shows back up and get them running again. If and when they say yes I will be there.”
Brooks finished a three-and-a-half year long world tour last year with his wife, Trisha Yearwood. Earlier this month, he announced plans for a new tour, along with new music due to be released soon.
