Micheál Bradley watched the culmination of six months of hard graft on the training field come through as Downings overcame derby rivals Gaeil Fhánada to win the All-Ireland junior title at Comortas Peile na Gaeltachta.
Downings capped off a magnificent weekend of hosting the Championships as their ladies and men’s teams both won their respective titles.
It took a late Allen Pasoma goal for Downings to see off Gaeil Fhánada in a hard-fought tussle before a huge crowd by Sheephaven’s waters.
“It was always going to tough,” Bradley said.
“That’s what we prepared for all year. We had a full squad and you can see what it means. We’ve been training for this since December.
“We weathered the storm and the good start kept us in it. We stuck tight. We made it work and every one of them worked their socks off. It means so much. To win it at home is so special.”
