DONEGAL is one of 16 counties included in a Orange Status thunderstorm alert until 10pm tonight.
The warning was issued at 3pm this afternoon – just as a number of storms hit Donegal.
The following counties will also be affected by the “severe thunderstorm activity”: Cavan, Monaghan, Dublin, Carlow, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Wexford, Wicklow, Westmeath, Leitrim, Roscommon, Sligo, Cork and Tipperary.
A Status Yellow rain warning is also in place for Donegal – along with Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan, Leitrim, Roscommon, Sligo, Cork, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford until 10pm tonight.
Rainfall between 25 and 50mm is expected, said Met Eireann.
While this afternoon’s storms have cleared, more are possible later this evening.
Tomorrow is still expected to be warm and humid, with temperatures of up to 23C. And there is still the threat of more heavy downpours tomorrow.
Isolated thunder storms this afternoon did cause some flooding on minor roads.
