The Donegal League are calling on the Oscar Traynor competition to return to its old format.
This season, a new format came into being for the competition, but Donegal League secretary Jimmy Haughey has said the structure was ‘totally unprofessional’.
In his report to the Donegal League AGM last night in Ballyare, Mr Haughey confirmed that his committee had requested that it revert to the old system.
“The organisation of the Oscar Traynor competition by the FAI Junior Council was totally unprofessional in the way that the competition was structured, lacking in clarity and in very poor communication with the League,” he said in his annual report.
“At this time, no format has been suggested or agreed for 2018/19. The Donegal League have requested a return to the original format. We await the outcome from the Junior Council.”
Donegal bowed out after a 6-0 aggregate loss to Inishown. A 2-0 defeat in Culdaff was followed by a 4-0 reversal at Carrickboyle, bringing an end to Brian Dorrian’s term as Donegal League manager.
Haughey paid tribute to the Killybegs man’s work with the team.
He said: “Brian Dorrian will not be returning to his position next year owing to work commitments. On behalf of the Donegal League, I wish to thank him for his efforts over the last number of years with the squad and the professional manner he adopted in his role.”
