The placing of a portable toilet on Gola Island off the Donegal coast has been welcomed.
However, Cllr Micheal Mac Giolla Easbuig said a huge amount of work still needs to be done for Donegal’s islands.
He said “It’s encouraging to see toilets made available on Gola island for locals and the visitors. It’s very important that the proper infrastructure is there for all our islands.”
However, he added the Government must continue to add to the infrastructure of isolated areas to attract tourism.
He said “The state continues to talk about the importance of the Wild Atlantic Way and tourism.
“But here in West Donegal on our islands they’re failing to provide the proper infrastructure that is needed for both locals and for tourists in one of the most beautiful parts of the world.
“There is work being done in relation to a few of the smaller islands to put toilet facilities and I recognise that and it certainly is encouraging.
“But far more work has to be done to promote our islands in the interest of the Islanders and tourism.”
