A grant of €2.1m has been allocated for a new library, family resource centre and Foróige base in Donegal Town.
Deputy Pat the Cope Gallagher Leas Cheann Comhairle has welcomed the announcement.
He said “This is very welcome news for Donegal Town as these facilities are greatly needed in the Donegal Town and surrounding areas.
“The issue of a new Library for Donegal Town is one which I have been lobbying on for some time and this development is creating an innovative partnership with other community resource groups such as the Family Resource centre and youth service organisation Foróige.
“I will be maintaining the pressure now in order to secure the necessary planning permissions and get this project up and running.”
A date for a start on construction of the new facility has not yet been announced.
