Walking is an essential component in our daily lives that most of us take for granted. Imagine the devastation to our lives if this vital gift of nature was removed and we had to seek alternative modes of mobility. Unfortunately, this happens on a daily basis to some of the people we love most in life.
As a community we can help, and hence the foundation of the No Barriers. The foundation is a voluntary group of people which includes experienced health professionals and concerned community people who have created a charity to help people walk again.
Recently the No Barriers Foundation took delivery of a “Robotic Rehabilitation Suit” costing €161,000.00.The purchase was made possible thanks to a very generous grant from the Leader Fund and money raised in the past 6 months by the No Barriers Foundation.
The Robotic Suit is revolutionary as it can be strapped to an individual and with the assistance of a specialised trained specialist, the participant will engage in taking the first step forward.
The individual participants must undergo a diagnostic health review before starting the programme to ensure they quality to use the suit. The programme will start mid- May at the JT Physio Clinic in Letterkenny and new satellite sites will be opened throughout the county in the latter part of the year.
