There were only two IDA organised site visits to Donegal by potential investors last year.
Senator Padraig Mac Lochlainn said this was one of the worst annual outcomes ever.
He said “There is no sugar-coating this. The Government and the IDA are just not attracting the levels of investment that the people of Donegal need and deserve.
“The people of Donegal have proven that we have the talent and the skills required for a modern global economy as evidenced by the success stories of Pramerica, Optum (United Health Group) and other companies. Letterkenny Institute of Technology with their CoLab and the North West Regional Science Park have also demonstrated that they also have the vision and innovation leadership required to support Donegal’s place in that modern global economy”.
“I believe that that Government and the IDA are in denial about their failures. This is a serious worry because if you don’t accept that you have a problem, then it can’t be fixed.”
Senator Mac Lochlainn said he has seen thousands of our young people having to emigrate to Canada, Australia and elsewhere across the world again over recent years for work.
“They are also working in Dublin, Galway, Belfast and elsewhere on this island. So many of them should not have had to go. They should be building their futures and their families here in Donegal.
“I will continue to vigorously challenge the Government and the IDA on their historical record in Donegal. It’s vital for the future of our county that they step up to the plate”.
