Paddy J McGinley says that the reawakening of sleeping giant Naomh Columba isn’t far away.
Glen contested six senior championship finals during the ‘90s, winning Dr Maguire in 1990, and were consistently challenging for the top honours.
The club slid down to Division 3, but is now showing promising signs again.
Yesterday, Glen ran Naomh Conaill to the pins of their collar in the Donegal Senior Gaeltacht final in Downings.
“I’m going into dressing rooms for 40 years and only once in the early 90s, in a different town, did I see a group with the same chemistry that these lads have,” McGinley said.
“There is a man of 40 in it and a man of 17 in it. It’s very enjoyable.
“The next five years will see Naomh Columba re-emerge as a force. Things are good and the club is going well.”
McGinley admits that he went to Donwings with ‘a bit of apprehension’ but after a win over Gaoth Dobhair on Sunday in the semi-final, Glen came mightily close to an upset again yesterday.
McGinley said: “We’re proud. We know we have good footballers. We can’t get them to grow over 5 foot 10 but we have a lot of good players.”
